First round matches Athletic Bilbao and Sevilla qualified for the UEFA cup as Spain's fifth and sixth placed sides in the league, and Zaragoza joined them as Spanish cup winners. All will be trying to qualify for the second round, which will be played in a mini-league format for the first time this season.
