2-0. 61. Yeste. Dribbled past two defenders and struck shot past keeper.

Athletic Bilbao joined the other three Spanish teams in the second round after knocking out Trabzonspor in the San Mamés stadium. Thanks to their epic fight back a fortnight ago, the Basque side were only trailing by one goal in the tie, and that was cancelled out as early as the fifth minute when Ezquerro glided past two defenders from the left wing and surprised Petkovic with a low shot into the far corner of the net.

Ezquerro could have got a second a few minutes later but he couldn't get enough power behind Etxeberría's cross, and a couple of minutes before the break he had to leave the field after picking up an injury. His replacement Arriaga caused some problems for the Turkish defence either side of half time though before Yeste wrapped things up, his jinking run leaving two defenders behind before shooting into the top corner of the net.

Both sides had chances after that but Athletic were always in control, and Valverde was confident enough to give his young striker Azkorra a debut appearance in the last few minutes.
