Second division B play-offs

The league stage of the second division B ended today, with sixteen teams going in to the play-offs for the four promotion spots. Qualifying sides from the four regional groups were as follows:

Group I: Universidad Las Palmas, Pontevedra, UD Las Palmas, Vecindario;
Group II: Salamanca, Real Sociedad B, Burgos, Ponferradina;
Group III: Badalona, Levante B, Alicante, Gramanet;
Group IV: Cartagena, Aguilas, Sevilla B, Linares.

Sides will be drawn into four cross-regional groups, with semi-finals and finals to be played over two legs. (28.05.05)

The four cross-regional groups were made up as follows:

Group A: Gramanet v Salamanca; Sevilla B v Pontevedra.
Group B: UD Las Palmas v Real Sociedad B; Linares v Badalona.
Group C: Burgos v Levante B; Vecindario v Cartagena.
Group D: Alicante v Aguilas; Ponferradina v Universidad Las Palmas.

Teams will play home and away, with the winners meeting in a group final, also played over two legs starting at the ground of the lower ranked side. The winner of each group final will be promoted to the second division A. (29.05.05)

Four teams from each of the four regional groups were relegated, and the four teams finishing fifth from bottom in each group will play off to avoid the one remaining relegation spot. They will be replaced by 17 sides who win through the division three play-offs (top four of each of the 17 regional groups to take part), which once again will be on a straight knock out basis. The sides relegated were as follows (subject to appeals and relegations for financial reasons which will be decided at the end of July):

Group I: Alcalá, San Isidro, Móstoles, Negreira;
Group II: Cultural Durango, Alavés B, Portugalete, Zalla;
Group III: Reus, Sabadell, Zaragoza B, Peralta;
Group IV: Almansa, Conquense, Algeciras, Diter Zafra.

The draw for the relegation play-off threw together the following fixtures: Baza v Amurrio; Huesca v Castillo. Teams will play over two legs, with the losers playing each other to avoid going down. (29.05.05)

Semi-finals first leg, 4th June:
Baza 1 - 1 Amurrio
Huesca 0 - 0 Castillo

Semi-finals second leg, 11th June:
Amurrio 1 - 1 Baza
Castillo 1 - 1 Huesca

Final first leg, 17th June:

Castillo 0 - 1 Baza

Final second leg, 25th June:

Baza 2 - 0 Castillo

Relegated: Castillo

Seventeen sides were promoted from the regional third division to replace those relegated, all winning through the group play-offs.

Group A: Cobeño, Lugo, Guijuelo, Universidad Oviedo;
Group B: Logroñés, Sestao River, Gimnastica Torrelavega, Barbastro;
Group C: Orihuela, Eldense, Valencia B, Espanyol B;
Group D: Villanovense, Portuense, Granada, Puertollano;
Group E: Orientación Marítima.

The promotion and relegation spots are still subject to any changes due to automatic relegation of any club who are not up to date with payments to their players by the end of July. (25.06.06)

Badajoz failed to meet the July 31 payment deadline and are relegated to the third division. They will be replaced in the second division B group IV by Cerro Reyes, runners up in the group play-offs, who are also from Badajoz. (05.08.06)
