Las Palmas are the
first side to ensure their place in the second division B play off finals
despite a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Real Sociedad B. It took a last
minute strike from Nauzet to take them through though after having a man sent
off shortly before the Basque side scored two late goals through Zubillaga and
Díaz de Cerio. (10.06.06)
Salamanca are in to
the group A final after beating Gramanet 3-1. A 1-2 win from the first
leg had given them a big advantage, and Quique Martín put them further
ahead from the penalty spot after Zé Tó was fouled by Sergio.
Dimas levelled the scores, but second hlf strikes by Zé Tó and
Jorge Alonso wrapped things up. Salamanca's opponents will be Sevilla B,
who produced the surprise of the day after levelling a 0-2 first leg scoreline
at Pontevedra with a late goal from Pablo Sánchez and an injury
time own goal from Fran. The Andalusians won 3-5 on penalties after extra time
produced no further goals.
Las Palmas will play
Linares in the group B final after the Andalusians beat Badalona
2-3. The contest was virtually over at half time, goals from Dani Bouzas and
Bordi (2) adding to the two goal lead from the first leg. Caballero and
Puigdollers made the score more respectable after the restart, but it was too
late and the locals ended with ten men after Macanas was sent off. The result,
together with the defeat of Gramanet, the promotion of Nàstic and the
relegation of Lleida, leaves Catalonia without a second division A side for the
first time in 38 years.
Surprises also in group C,
where the two favourites were knocked out. Cartagena were beaten 0-1 by
modest Vecindario, the result overturning a favourable 2-2 scoreline
from last week. The Canary Islanders took the lead when Ruano beat Cabrero on
the stroke of half time, but the hosts wasted several chances and Sabino missed
a late penalty which would have taken the Murcia based side through on the away
goal rule. Burgos were up against it after losing their first leg 0-1 to
Levante B, and they were knocked out after being beaten again by a
single goal. Gaizka struck the winner in the last minute, and the Valencia
based side have to hope their first team win promotion to the first division to
give them a chance of going up.
Alicante could be
joining their city neighbours Hércules in the second division after a
0-0 draw at Águilas took them through 2-1 on aggregate. A single
goal would have taken the Murcia based side into the group D final, but they
could not break down a well ordered defence and could have lost had Sendoa not
hit the bar late on. Alicante's opponents will be Ponferradina, who
followed up their 3-2 win over Universidad Las Palmas with a 1-2 victory
in Gran Canaria. After last week's problems it was another bad tempered match,
with five players sent off and incidents with fans at the end of the game.
Asier Salcedo gave the visitors the lead, but Angel Sánchez equalised
and the locals hit the post in the dying minutes before play went up the other
end and Pereira struck the winner for the Castilla León based side.
The four finals will
therefore be as follows:
Group A: Sevilla B v
Salamanca; Group B: Linares v Las Palmas; Group C: Vecindario v Levante
B; Group D: Ponferradina v Alicante.
Matches will be played over
two legs during the next two weekends, with the four winners being promoted.
In the battle to avoid the
one remaining relegation spot, Castillo and Baza will have to play off over the
next two weeks after losing their respective ties. Castillo were held to
a 1-1 draw by Huesca, the away goal for the Aragón based side
saving them against their Canary Island opponents. Sestelo got the goal which
kept them up after Anibal had given the hosts the lead. A 1-1 result as well
between Amurrio and Baza, a scoreline which meant the game went
to a penalty shoot out which the Vitoria based side won against the Andalusians
with five out of five despite having two players sent off late in the second
half. (11.06.06) |
