The regular league stage
finished this week in the four regionalized groups, and the top four of each
group go into the cross-divisional play-offs. This will take the form of four
mini-leagues, the winners of each mini-league qualifying for promotion to
second division A. Several big names will appear in this week's draw, including
Burgos, Murcia, Hércules and Granada, who have all played in the first
division in recent years. Zaragoza's good season has been rounded off by the
success of their B team, who were second in group 2. Real Madrid B and Mallorca
B just missed out, with several of their best players on first team duty during
the season. The same fate befell Barcelona B, who ended up mid-table in group
3. Curiously, Betis B and Sevilla B met the same fate as their senior teams,
being relegated to the third division, with the B teams from Valencia,
Valladolid and Oviedo also dropping a level. This year's cup heroes had mixed
fortunes, with Ourense and Barakaldo making it to the play-offs, Polideportivo
Almeria just missing out, and Real Unión from Irún just saving
themselves at the end. The top teams of each group were as follows (first four
marked in green qualify):
