Spain had more problems than expected in their qualifying group, but eventually won through to the finals after beating Norway over a two leg play off. (19.11.03) The draw for the final stage grouped Spain together with hosts Portugal, as well as Russia and the team which topped their qualifying group, Greece. Iñaki Sáez's side kick off on 12th June against Russia in the Algarve some three hours after Portugal open the tournament against Greece, and if they win through to the quarter finals they will face one of the top two from group B, which comprises England, France, Switzerland and Croatia. (30.11.03) See our Euro 2000 section for information on Spain's performance in the previous tournament. |
