Intertoto Cup 2001/2002 | ||
Traditionally, the seventh and the eighth placed teams in the final league table of the season (Villarreal and Málaga) will go straight into the third and the second round of this competition respectively. This year it also depends on the outcome of the Spanish Cup final and who goes into the UEFA Cup competition as a result. If Celta win the Spanish Cup, since they are already in the UEFA, the seventh placed Villarreal will also play in the UEFA and the next placed Espanyol will qualify for Intertoto. On the other hand, if Barcelona, who have already qualified for the Champions League, win the Spanish Cup, then the extra UEFA place will go to the losing finalist - either Zaragoza or Atlético Madrid, and Villarreal will play the Intertoto. |
