The second world club championship between the best club sides in the world will take place in Spain this summer between 29 July and 12 August. As with the previous tournament in Brazil, twelve teams will take part. As Spain are the hosts they will be allowed two participants, who will be the reigning European champions Real Madrid and the league champions Deportivo La Coruña. The matches are scheduled to be played at Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabéu stadium, Atlético Madrid's Vicente Calderón stadium, and the Riazor stadium in La Coruña. The twelve teams have been divided into three groups of four after Boca Juniors, Palmeiras and Real Madrid were chosen as three seeds. Group champions and the best second-placed team will go into the semi-finals. The opening game will be between Boca Juniors and Deportivo at the Riazor, and the final will be played at the Bernabéu.
