With Atlético and Getafe resting, Villarreal were the only Spanish club in action in the UEFA Cup. And they came away from Mlada Boleslav with a 1-2 victory which left them joint top of their group. Mati Fernández set up Nihat and then Cazorla either side of half time to put Pellegrini's side two up, and Tomasson and Fernández both hit the woodwork later in the second half. But Mendy got one back in the ninetieth minute, and the Czech side almost saved a point when Prochazka headed the ball into the net in injury time only for the strike to be ruled out for a borderline offside.
