Spain met their match in the
second group game in Australia. Chile were one of the sides who used up their
full quota of overage players, with Inter Milan's Iván Zamorano
Auxerre`s Pedro Reyes and keeper Nelson Tapia adding weight to their side.
Iñaki Saez made one change to his side, bringing in Valencia's Angulo to
join Tamudo up front. Udinese's David Pizarro was however their star together
with Zamorano, and his was the cross after leaving Amaya stranded that set up
the first goal for Olarra. Earlier Velamazán could have given Spain the
lead if his shot had not gone over the bar, and Capdevila brought a good save
out of Tapia with a header. But it was Chile who went further ahead shortly
before the break after Zamorano, lying on the ground near the goal line after
being well tackled by a Spanish defender, stuck out a foot and knocked the ball
past Aranzubia and across the goal mouth. Navia was quicker than the defence
and ran on to score. Spain pulled one back with a bit of fortune in the second
half, Ormazábal's clearance striking Lacruz on the head and rebounding
back into the net. Amaya and Xavi went close to equalizing, but with a minute
left it was Zamorano again, with a square pass to Navia who finished off
neatly. After the match there was a set to between the Spanish players and
Zamorano, either for a late tackle or for something he said. Spain now go on to
play Morocco on Wednesday, and really need to win to qualify for the next
stage. |
