Spain won their opening game in the Olympic games in Sydney with three goals in the first half which left South Korea down and out. Korea sat back from the start looking to catch Spain on the counter-attack, but they were surprised by the speed of their opponents who were in a different class. Well taken goals from Velamazán, José Mari and Xavi meant that Spain could take it easy in the second half, although they could have extended their lead in the second half if José Mari, Gabri and Tamudo had been on target with their efforts. Manager Iñaki Saez brought on three substitutes later on, resting key players for their next match with Chile, who with three over age players including Iván Zamorano are group favourites.
