No doubt the big shock this weekend was the relegation of Iker Casillas to the Real Madrid substitutes' bench for the first time in ten years, a decision which backfired on Mourinho after his replacement Adán let in three in a 3-2 defeat at Willy Caballero's Málaga. It remains to be seen whether Mou continues with Adán in goal in the new year, or whether he bows to pressure to reinstate his captain. The decision though occupied most of the sports channels in the days before the winter break, with many pundits suggesting there were ulterior motives (i.e. Mourinho wants to get himself sacked!!!).
Whatever the case, Casillas actually improved his position in the charts by not playing, although Courtois is now in the running for the best goalkeeper prize as well after clocking up another clean sheet in Atlético's 1-0 win over Celta. Another three keepers didn't let in a goal either this weekend, Roberto (Zaragoza), Kiko Casilla (Espanyol) and Rubén (Rayo), the latter taking over from the injured Cobeño this week. (23.12.12)
