A bit
of a blow for Cañizares this week, with Dely Valdés making a mess
of his statistics with a hat-trick. He still leads our chart this week, and
with Mora letting in two and Molina one (a penalty) the gap is now down to five
goals. Neither of the other two contenders played, with Leo Franco not yet
fully recovered and Casillas rested. As commented last week, Mallorca's
situation is very unusual, with all three first choice keepers injured, and 18
year old B team keeper Miki Garro played his first full game this weekend,
doing well not to let in a goal throughout the match. Casillas was surprisingly
left out of the Real Madrid side by Vicente Del Bosque after being partly
blamed for Bayern Munich's goals in the Champions League semi-finals, and
although his manager says he is only resting the youngster after a hard week,
it remains to be seen whether his replacement César keeps his place for
the four remaining games. As well as Miki and Cañizares's opposite
number Contreras, only two minders kept clean sheets this week. Numancia's
Alvaro Nuñez returned to the Numancia side after being left out for
three games, and was providential in their victory over relegation rivals
Osasuna. Racing's Ceballos also played an important part in the other
relegation battle between his side and Oviedo, and he returns to our charts in
place of Zaragoza's Juanmi, who let in two at Las Palmas. Kasey Keller had the
worst result of the day, letting in five at Barcelona, and he now has let in 43
goals in twenty league games. (14.05.01) |
