A
mixed day for our keepers this one. Only three of them managed to keep a
spotless record this week, two of them in the same game. The 0-0 draw between
Oviedo and Valencia takes Cañizares further in to the lead, although
Esteban in the other goal does not have much chance of making our chart having
let in 55 goals to date. He is being touted as a possible future signing for
Barcelona who have let in 50 goals already between the three keepers they have
used to date, their worst "goals against" record in over 50 years. Mora was the
only other one to keep a clean sheet, his fifth in seven games, and he moves
into solitary second spot after Casillas let in two. Leo Franco had to leave
the field after 20 minutes against Villarreal, and with Mono Burgos on
international duty, Mallorca B keeper Miki took over. Although he could do
little about the two goals he let in, Burgos will probably take over if Franco
doesn't recover for next week's game. Elsewhere Numancia's manager
García Remón left Alvaro Nuñez on the bench for the first
time for their match at Las Palmas, bringing in Raúl for his first
appearance of the season. García had apparently been unhappy about the
performance of Nuñez in the last two or three matches.
