The
big surprise of the day when teams were announced was the absence of last
year's top keeper Herrera from the Alavés line up. The official story
was that he was in Italy sorting out paperwork problems, but it later
transpired that he was under investigation for irregularities in his passport,
and the club prudently decided to leave him out. Later in the week the
Italo-Argentinian had his playing licence temporarily suspended by the
federation pending the results of the investigation. Reserve keeper Kike
stepped in for the weekend game against Real Sociedad and looks like he will be
there for some time. On the field of play our leading keeper Cañizares
let in three goals for the first time this season in the league, although it
took two penalties for Celta to do so. With the not fully fit Molina once again
being rested (Songo'o had a stinker in his place) the gap narrowed a bit to
five. Four clean sheets this week, with Mora and Leo Franco neck-and-neck
moving a goal up on Casillas into third and fourth place respectively. Nacho
González improved his position with a great display against Deportivo,
and Oviedo's Esteban also stood out as his team finally recorded their first
away win of the season. Real Sociedad's Alberto comes in to the chart for the
first time, with Racing's Ceballos dropping out after letting in four against
on form Villarreal. (19.03.01) |
