Only
24 goals scored this week, one of the lowest in the league so far. Five games
were decided by a single goal, and no less than seven keepers kept clean
sheets. One of them of course was Cañizares, and he widens his lead over
second placed Molina. Leo Franco closed up on Casillas and Mora, and Herrera
also improved his position with a good display. With Lopetegui dropping out of
our table, having lost his place to Kasey Keller, and Nuñez also
disappearing after letting in three against Valencia, Lafuente and Ceballos
come back into the rankings. Both kept clean sheets against the league's giants
Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively, helping their teams to much needed
victories. The other two clean sheets were by Valladolid's Bizzarri, his third
in a row, and Celta's Cavallero against his old club Espanyol. Spare a thought
though for Málaga's second choice keeper Rafa. He came in for his first
game of the season and his second ever in the first division when Contreras
twisted his ankle before the game with Mallorca. With half an hour gone he
tried to catch Luque's high cross, but lost it in the sun. The ball hit his
knee and entered the goal, despite his scrambled efforts to keep it out. His
team lost 0-1, and temporarily at least fell behind in their attempt to get
into Europe for next season. Could be a costly mistake? (12.02.01) |
