After
last week's goalkeeping diasters, this week things returned to normal, although
the goal count was high and only three teams, Valencia, Real Madrid and
Athletic Bilbao, finished their games without letting in a goal.
Cañizares therefore opens up a two goal gap over the rest, proving once
again that his manager Héctor Cúper can be relied upon to put
together a strong defensive side. Leo Franco is second, and his record reads
like a binary punch-card (remember those?), with a series of noughts and ones
from start to finish. Molina took a knock last week, and although he played
midweek against Milan, Irureta gave Songo'o an outing in his place this
weekend. With Mora letting in four and Herrera two, the top three open up a
three goal lead over the rest. Casillas edges up a place or two, and Nuno, who
was suspended, finds himself higher up the table as well. Ricardo drops out
after losing his place to Bizzarri, and in come Bilbao's Lafuente and
Numancia's Alvaro Nuñez. Finally a mention for Barcelona's 18 year old B
team keeper Reina, who made his first start against Espanyol this weekend with
Dutruel and Arnau both injured. At the moment Barcelona say they will not be
signing a replacement when the transfer window opens next week.
