Cañizares joins Herrera at the top of the
goalkeeping table after keeping Catanha, McCarthy et al at bay. The keeper's
performance has helped Valencia to the top of the table for the first time in
seven years. Herrera was only beaten once this time, by Real Sociedad's
Jauregui in the Basque derby. His Alavés colleagues were the first team
not to penetrate the San Sebastian team's goal, and after letting in 22 goals
in seven games, they finally kept a clean sheet. Congratulations to Alberto,
who recently took over from Asper at the blunt end. Molina and Leo Franco were
the other two keepers to remain unbeaten, with the Deportivo player moving back
into contention, level now with Ricardo and Lopetegui on minus two. Lopetegui
must be thankful that his manager decided to give Keller an outing for this
week's game, the US international being hit for four by an on-form Oviedo.
Dutruel, who was left out of the Barcelona side this week after recent shaky
performances, and Osasuna's Nuno, who let in three, drop out of the table.
