Only
one man in the frame for this week's white stick award, although Mejuto
González was on the edge of the photo until the appeal committee took
away his red card to Urzaiz and reduced his tally to a mere nine yellows. But
Turienzo Alvarez put in one of the best performances of the league to date, and
not only for the eleven yellow and one red cards that he produced during the
match. With the scores level at one apiece between Celta and Mallorca Luque
scored from a wide angle. "Sorry", said Turienzo, "offside". Six minutes later
Mallorca struck again through Finidi. "Yes" said the visiting supporters. "No",
said Turienzo, "offside". At half time Miguel Soler went into the ref's book
for telling him in the tunnel that he had no idea. Then after Djorovic scored
for Celta in the second half, Armando headed past Pinto. "Surely this time
ref?" said the Mallorca players. "Afraid not", said Turienzo, "foul on the
keeper". Armando bounced the ball down in frustration, got a second yellow card
and was off. In the last minute Olaizola got the ball in the net again. "What
was wrong with that one ref, Martians invaded or something?". "No, that one's
OK. Goal". The match ended 2-2, but Mallorca lodged an appeal after the match
against the official's performance. Television pictures showed that at least
Finidi and Armando's efforts were valid, and Luque's offside was at best
doubtful. But the score stands, and life goes on. Turienzo moves to the top of
our chart, having shown even more cards than Daudén Ibáñez
and Bueno Grimal. It's going to be tough fight for the title this year.
