Daudén Ibáñez keeps up the lead this
week with another five cards, including the sending off of Osasuna's Yanguas in
the 26th minute for diving in the penalty area (his second yellow card of the
match). Yanguas claimed he just slipped on the treacherous wet surface.
Not-so-Bueno Grimal kept up his average of nine cards a game, and another of
our favourites, Esquinas Torras, sent off Málaga's physio after being
insulted once too often. The week's award though goes to Fernández
Marín who sent off Rayo's Poschner. He was only going to give him a
yellow card when the midfielder addressed the referee "in an unintelligible
language, clearly in disconformity with my labour". Logical really. Poschner is
German and asked the ref in his own language why he was showing him the yellow
card. Rayo will appeal, in Spanish this time. We cannot sign off though without
a special mention for English referee Pete Kearle for the fastest sending off
ever. Minehead's Lee Todd was standing with his back to him when he blew the
whistle to start the match. "F*** me, that was loud" said the player, clearly
shocked. Off he went for foul and abusive language. "He nearly blew my head
off" said the player in defence. (16.10.00) |
