Before this weekend, five out of the 24 referees had still
to referee a match in the first division. It was clear as they came out that
they were eager to catch up with their colleagues, and they set about their
work with a vengeance, dishing out cards left right and centre in order not to
be left behind. Ansuategui Roca whipped out seven yellows, pistol packing Bueno
Grimal fired off ten, but the man of the week was López Nieto who sent
off two players, including Pandiani (who had only just come on a few minutes
before, scored and got his marching orders), and Real Sociedad's Loren, as well
as showing eight more yellows. Prados García almost got by unnoticed
this time, but he remembered his manners and booked Viinny Samways out of
respect in the last minute. Total this week, 52 yellows and five reds, the
highest to date. (25.9.00) |
