Five red cards at the
weekend, including one each for Sergio (Osasuna) and Romaric (Sevilla) in a
fixture which in the past has produced a spark or two, the first for a foul on
Diego Capel and the second for two yellow cards. Almería's Chico
(straight red) and Valladolid's Iñaki Bea (two bookings) were both given
their marching orders early on in their respective matches against Betis and
Racing, and Recreativo's Lamas was sent off for a second bookable offence after
protesting a late penalty appeal in the relegation battle at Numancia. Lamas
was given a two match ban after calling the referee a coward as the teams were
leaving the field at the end.
Another seven players will
miss the penultimate round of games next weekend after completing the five
yellow card cycle. Numancia's Cisma picked up his tenth booking of the season,
and Iraola (Athletic), Mark González (Betis), De la Peña
(Espanyol), Valera (Racing), Aitor (Recre) and Borja (Valladolid) all were
given their fifth. González had been let off an earlier suspension a few
weeks ago by the appeals committee, and Sporting's Matabuena was also saved
this week after his tenth caution of the season was overturned. (19.05.09)
