Only three red cards in the
midweek round of games, two of which came in the match between Atlético
Madrid and Osasuna. Clavero was the first to go for the visitors after picking
up two yellow cards in the second half, and Ibagaza followed him later on with
a straight red for deliberately stepping on Izquierdo's back as he was lying on
the floor. The action earned him a two match ban which means he will not play
again this season. Alavés midfielder Quique De Lucas was also sent off
after the break for a hard tackle on an opponent against Betis, and he too will
be suspended for two games, one for the straight red card and one for insulting
the referee on his way off the field.
They will be joined on the
sidelines this weekend by nine other players who completed the five yellow card
cycle, including (rather suspiciously) Sevilla's Daniel Alves and David, (both
of whom "forced" their tenth bookings, and would have been rested anyway prior
to the UEFA cup final), and Molinero and Galletti (Atlético), Rivas
(Betis), Iriney (Celta), Víctor (Deportivo), Jonas Gutiérrez
(Mallorca) and Garitano (Real Sociedad), all of whom picked up their fifth.
