Roberto Carlos, what on
earth did you do? The popular Real Madrid full back was given his marching
orders just twenty five minutes in to the "derby" game at Barcelona, leaving
his side with ten men for three quarters of the match. Roberto had already had
a dubious penalty awarded against him and then got himself booked for arguing,
but according to referee Medina Cantalejo's report, just a few minutes later he
strode up to him and his assistant, pointing his finger at both and saying "you
and you are a couple of sh*ts!" Red card and goodnight! The player himself
though said that his comment was "you and you must think we are a bunch of
sh*ts" (our translation), which is not at all the same thing. Only a lip-reader
knows who was telling the truth!
Other than Roberto Carlos
there were only two more red cards this weekend, both for Málaga
players. Juan Rodríguez was the first to go for a second bookable
offence midway through the second half, and he was followed by Chengue Morales,
who was shown a straight red for kicking an opponent near the end. They will be
joined on the sidelines by seven other players who will pick up a one match ban
for accumulation of yellow cards, including Gaspar (Alavés), Pablo
(Atlético), Fleurquín (Cádiz) and Ponzio (Zaragoza) who
all picked up their tenth booking, and Contra and Gavilán (Getafe) and
Cani (Zaragoza), all of whom were given their fifth. (04.04.06)
PS Juan Rodríguez was
let off one of his yellow cards by the appeals committee, and therefore will be
available to play this weekend. |
