A
busy week for the disciplinary committee last week, with no less than 18
players and one manager (Oviedo's Radomir Antic) forced to miss this weekend's
matches. Despite appeals by their clubs, Rayo's Quevedo and Alavés's
Téllez got two match bans, although Valladolid's Alberto was let off a
suspension as it was proved that he was actually tripped and did not dive in
the penalty area. Pity Valladolid, as they lost that match against Celta after
leading before the player was sent off. Disciplinary investigations were opened
against Barcelona's Gaspart, Angel Fernández (president and vice
president), Serra Ferrer (manager) and Rivaldo (well, you know who he is) after
claiming they were robbed by the referee against Real Madrid, although Madrid
themselves were fined for allowing fans to throw things on the pitch and more
seriously punch keeper Reina during the game. A quieter week this week, with
only one sending off, the unfortunate Vagner. Returning from a one match ban
for accumulating five yellow cards, he was doing all right, and had even won a
penalty for Celta. But he had a nightmare last five minutes, putting through
his own net and then giving away another penalty (or so the referee thought),
picking up a direct red card on top of the yellow he was shown earlier. Luckily
for him his keeper saved the spot kick. Other than that there were 52 more
yellow cards, with Darío Silva fortunate to stay on the pitch after
breaking two of Aitor Ocio's ribs with a challenge with his knee. Arzeno stays
ahead in our table with his twentieth point, and Paqui moves up to fourth after
reaching the 10 yellow card threshhold and getting himself banned again.
