Villains
Djalminha, what have you done? The man is a complete genius, makes another great goal and then gets himself sent off against one of the mildest mannered referees in the league. First of all he protests in rather unpleasant terms to the referee for awarding a free kick against his team. And then when Losantos Omar is getting out the yellow card to book him for that, he insults the referee's mother (at least according to the official referee's report). Off he goes, Deportivo down to ten and Rayo equalise shortly afterwards. This was the fifth time that Djalma has been sent off in four seasons in Spain, and if he has not yet joined one of the big money clubs it is because of his temperament. The Brazilian was one of five who received red cards this weekend, including two from Las Palmas as Paqui and then Schurrer got their marching orders for second bookable offences near the end of their match with Villarreal. Mallorca's Fernando Niño can expect a two match ban as not only was he sent off, but he reached the five card barrier with his first yellow of the night, and Málaga's Martín Rivas, given a rare chance to prove himself, blew it completely getting himself sent off with two yellows against Valladolid. Hierro and Cocu will miss their next matches as they received their fifth yellow cards of the season, and according to some reports so too do César Sampaio and De Quintana. (11.12.00)
