Villains
Our leading villain Marioni returned after a four match suspension, but he has apparently learnt his lesson and he was an 'angelito' throughout the match with Bilbao. A tightly fought race for second place, with no less than fourteen players separated by one card. Three sendings off this week, including Marcos who was given two yellow cards in the first half to add to the two more he picked up earlier in the season, and he joins our chasing group. Deportivo's Fernando also got a second yellow near the end of his game (see our white stick section), and Zaragoza's Gary Sundgren was dismissed with a direct red card after apparently insulting referee Carmona Méndez. After the game Sungren said that he may have called the referee a 'hijo de p***', but he thought that was a normal thing to say in Spain. According to the referee's report though, it was not an insult to the referee's mother that got him sent off, but for suggesting a physical impossibility as to where the referee could put the ball. But then maybe he thinks that assh*les are bigger in Spain too? (29.10.00)
