Pichichis
Another 34 goals scored in the league, with several high scoring matches. Barcelona recorded their second 4-4 draw in a week, this time against Zaragoza, with another two from Kluivert and a last minute equaliser from a Rivaldo free kick. The two head up our table this week, with Rivaldo's goal also taking him to Pichichi in the league above Javi Moreno, who was still out injured. Esnaider got two for the visitors to take him up to eleven for the season, but considering he didn't start until December that is not a bad tally. With Morientes and Raúl both out of Real Madrid's starting line up, Guti came in as makeshift centre forward. Having hit the winner last week, he went two better this time, scoring a hat-trick in his team's 4-0 victory over Villarreal. His first goal is worth recording on tape, as was Madrid's other goal, a Roberto Carlos free kick which makes him the highest scoring defender in Spain with 10 goals to date. The only other of our top scorers to add to their totals this week were Makaay and Michel, both of whom scored the equalising goals in their respective matches. Darío Silva finally makes it into the chart to join his teammate Dely Valdés, who helped him get his twelfth of the season simply by stepping over the ball. Just outside of the table, Tamudo got his eleventh of the season in Espanyol's 0-1 victory over Bilbao, the third time in four matches that he has got the only goal of the game to give his side the three points. He will surely be on someone's shopping list for next season. (16.04.01)
