Another 50 goals this week, with the top dogs getting 20
of them. The performances of the week were undoubtedly by Deportivo's Pandiani
and Diego Tristán who scored eight goals between them, and that after
missing out on the first half against PSG with Roy Makaay being preferred in
the striker position. 'Rifle' Pandiani got five in four days to shoot up the
table (ha, ha). The top five from last week all got goals, with Rivaldo getting
one for each team in Barça's match against Mallorca after missing out on
the UEFA cup tie midweek through international duty. Kluivert got two in that
game, but loses one from his brought forward total as one of his pair against
Real Sociedad was put down by the referee as a López Rekarte own goal.
Javi Moreno only got one of the seven his team put past Rayo Vallecano in their
double header, with Michel and Bolic getting the two goals in reply. They meet
for a third time next Thursday in the UEFA cup second leg. Raúl stepped
up a gear with three goals in a week to move ahead of Javi Moreno into second
place, although the first of his two against Leeds in the Champions League was
scored with his hand and looks like costing him a one match suspension (see
villains section). Catanha claimed his side's second goal in the league against
Valladolid, although it should probably only have been a half as he and Edu
both appeared to head the ball simultaneously. Other top men to add to their
totals were Carew and Dely Valdés, with Figo, Morientes and Urzaiz
joining Darío Silva on ten goals just outside of our chart.
