A
good week for the forwards, with no less than 50 goals being scored between
league and European competitions. Spanish teams went marching on in the
Champions League and the UEFA cup, with our leader Rivaldo and third placed
Raúl both getting goals in their respective games. Luis Enrique
increased his tally with another hat-trick, his second in a month and his
eighth goal in only five games, and Bolo got one in Europe and one in the
league to move up to within a goal of his two teammates Bolic and Michel.
Second placed Javi Moreno has got four goals in Europe and he set one up for
Jordi Cruyff on Thursday, but his forte this season is in the league, where he
is the undisputed Pichichi. He celebrated his first time call up for the
Spanish squad with another goal on Sunday, taking his league total to 17, three
ahead of Raúl. Kluivert got his first league goals in six games to move
back up to fourth in the table, and Carew went one better with his first ever
hat-trick for his new club after going seven without scoring. Diego
Tristán came on as substitute to save a point for Deportivo against Real
Madrid, and Dely Valdés, the only player from a team not competing in
Europe to make our chart, got the first as Málaga came back from behind
to beat Las Palmas. As our threshold rises to ten goals, Víctor,
José Ignacio, Roberto Carlos and Quevedo drop out of our chart. Just for
the record, they were joined this week on nine goals by Urzaiz and Figo.
