Pichichis
Thirty three goals between cup and league this week, but very few by our top scorers. None of the top three added to their totals, and only Catanha and Bolo of the leaders got their names on the scoresheet. Catanha moves up to fourth as a result. Roberto Carlos returns to the chart with his ninth of the season from another house special free kick against Valladolid, not bad for a left back. Three new names come in on eight goals, with Makaay catching up with his two colleagues Diego Tristán and Pandiani. They have their own private battle for the Pichichi of Deportivo, although Makaay must be the best placed as he is currently holding down the centre forward spot. Two players who have scored three times in the Copa del Rey, Bilbao and Spain striker Urzaiz and Zaragoza's on-form midfielder José Ignacio, come in to the table for the first time. The top scorer in the cup to date though with four goals is a second division player, Atlético Madrid's Salva, who also leads the second division table with 10 goals in that competition. Salva took a drop in division in the summer to join Atleti after finishing the season as the first division's top scorer with Racing Santander, and things seem to be working out for him at his new club. He could even have scored more if he had not been suspended for five matches after being sent off twice. (22.01.01)
