A rare midweek round of games in the second division, Sporting Gijón moving provisionally to the top of the table after a 0-2 victory at Cultural Leonesa on Tuesday evening. Both goals came in a two minute period midway through the second half, Sergio Alvarez turning in a wide Moi Gómez free kick, and Alex Bergantiños forcing the second past Palatsi to give the Asturians their second win in a row. Huesca also had a chance of joining Sporting in the direct promotion spots when they played Reus earlier in the evening, but in the end they were held to a last minute 1-1 draw. Alex Gallar combined with Cucho Hernández to give the locals the lead on the hour mark, but Gus Ledes curled a shot past Remiro injury time to save a point for the Catalans. (10.10.17)
Numancia join Sporting at the top of the table after a 1-0 victory over Barcelona B on Wednesday, the Soria based side keeping up their 100% record at home. Guillermo got the only goal from the penalty spot after Lozano brought him down with eight minutes to go. Tenerife are up to fifth after a 1-1 draw at Oviedo, Saúl Berjón connecting with Aarón to give the Asturians the lead in the twentieth minute, but Juan Villar levelling it for the Canary Islanders with a shot from the edge of the area midway through the second half.
Granada miss out on a place in the play-off spots though after they lost 2-0 at Nàstic, Uche scoring two in four minutes around the half hour mark to take the Catalans to within a point of escaping the drop zone. The Tarragona based team are now level with Lorca, who were beaten 0-2 by Zaragoza, Javi Ros and Papunashvili scoring for the Maños towards the ends of the first and second halves. Nàstic and Lorca are now four points clear of bottom club Sevilla Atlético, who drew 0-0 against Cádiz despite having Matos sent off near the end. (11.10.17)
Osasuna returned to top spot after they beat Albacete 1-0 on Thursday, the Pamplona based side staying a point clear of Sporting and Numancia. Lucas Torró headed the only goal on the half hour mark after a Roberto Torres free kick came back off the post to hand a first defeat to new coach Enrique Martín on his return to his old hunting ground. Valladolid are up to fourth after they won 4-0 against Alcorcón, Mata giving them the lead shortly before the break after keeper Dani Jiménez dropped the ball it his feet. Michel made it two with a direct free kick after the break, and Gianniotas set up Mata for the third and then scored the fourth himself in the dying minutes.
Lugo are level with Valladolid on sixteen points after a 2-0 victory over Córdoba earlier in the afternoon (today was a public holiday in Spain). Both goals came in the last ten minutes, Campillo connecting with Campabadal’s cross for the first, and substitute Mario Barco getting the second with a shot in off the post. Only three points separate the top seven however, Rayo Vallecano also joining the fight for promotion after winning 1-0 against Almería. Santi Camesaña headed the only goal from an Embarba corner early on in the second half, and the visitors ended with nine men after Morcillo and Pozo were both shown red cards. (12.10.17)
