Second Division - Day 7

One game in the second division on Friday evening, Cultural Leonesa and Almería sharing the points in a 0-0 draw. The two teams kicked off level on points, knowing that a win would take either of them to the top of the table overnight. However in the end there were no goals, and an overzealous referee left them both with ten men after Morcillo and then Yasser were sent off for second bookable offences. (29.09.17)

Numancia and Valladolid occupy the top two spots going in to Sunday’s games after both clocked up big wins on Saturday. Numancia are the new leaders after they thrashed next to bottom club Albacete 5-1, Manu del Moral’s opener cancelled out by a strike from Zozulia immediately after the restart, but a Gaffor own goal and three more from Pere Milla, Dani Nieto and Higinio finishing off the Manchegans. Valladolid meanwhile beat Córdoba 4-1, Iban Salvador, Oscar Plano and Mata putting the home side three up with just over half an hour gone. Sergi Guardiola got one back after the interval, but Edu Ramos was sent off, and Luismi completed the scoring near the end. Cádiz though missed out on a chance to join Numancia at the top after they lost 3-0 at Lorca, an early Garrido own goal and late strikes by Manel Martínez and Merentiel giving the locals a much needed win. Numancia stay in top spot after their closest rivals Sporting Gijón were beaten 2-0 by Osasuna on Sunday, goals early on in each half by Roberto Torres and David Rodríguez taking the Pamplona based side a point above the Asturians in the table. Tenerife were also beaten 1-0 at Lugo, Fede Vico converting a penalty at the start of the second half to take the Galicians up to third. Huesca join Sporting and three others on eleven points after a 2-1 win over Rayo Vallecano, Cucho Hernández getting the winner (and also missing a late penalty) after Aguirre had cancelled out Trejo’s early penalty. And Granada are now a point behind them all after a 1-2 victory at Alcorcón, Pedro and Saunier scoring for the Andalusians after Alvaro Peña had given the locals the lead from the penalty spot. Reus are level with Granada as well after beating bottom club Sevilla Atlético 0-1 thanks to a strike from Juan Domínguez on the quarter hour mark. The game between regional rivals Nàstic and Barcelona B was postponed though due to security risks on the day of the controversial Catalan independence referendum. (01.10.17)

The last game of match-day seven was on Monday, Zaragoza inching out of the relegation spots after a 2-2 draw at Oviedo. Results elsewhere over the weekend had left the Maños down in the bottom four, and they went two down to early goals from Aarón Ñíguez and Toché. However later in the first half Mikel González and Zapater pegged them back, and after the restart only a couple of good saves by Juan Carlos prevented Borja Iglesias and Angel from giving the visitors the three points. (02.10.17)

Nàstic and Barcelona B drew 0-0 in the match which was postponed earlier, as mentioned above. (01.11.17)
