Second Division - Day 5

Lugo clocked up their first home win of the season, the Galicians coming from behind to beat Zaragoza 2-1 on Friday evening. Oliver Buff ran on to Benito’s through ball to give the Maños the lead shortly before the break. However Seoane made it all square after Ignasi Miquel headed on a corner midway through the second half, and with the game in stoppage time Iriome got between his markers to head Albarracín’s centre past Cristian Alvarez to tie up the three points. Numancia join Cádiz at the top of the table after the Soria based side beat Sporting Gijón 3-0 in the last match on Saturday evening. The Asturians started the weekend in second spot, but they went behind when Pablo Valcarce combined with Pere Milla on the quarter hour mark. A few minutes later Escassi made it two after Whalley could only push out a cross from Iñigo Pérez, and Valcarce picked up an assist from Mateu to complete the scoring midway through the second half. Valladolid are also level with the leaders on ten points after they won 2-1 against Granada earlier in the afternoon. A quick passing move with Iban Salvador and Oscar Plana enabled Mata to give the locals the lead in the tenth minute, and new signing Gianniotas ran through to score the second just a couple of minutes after coming on late on in the second half. Pedro connected with an Espinosa cross to fire one back after that, but the Andalusians couldn’t prevent a defeat which, after four draws in their opening games, leaves them down near the drop zone.

Osasuna are up to fourth pending Sunday’s fixtures after they came from behind to beat Almería 2-1. Fidel connected with a Rubén Alcaraz cross to give the visitors the lead midway through the first half, but Quique picked up a pass from Fran Mérida to level the scores with twenty minutes to go, and Coris got the winner after René allowed Quique’s centre through his hands soon afterwards. The other two matches on Saturday ended all square, Sevilla Atlético and Rayo Vallecano drawing 0-0 without keepers Soriano and Alberto being particularly troubled, and Lorca and Reus drawing 1-1, Dani Ojeda turning in a Pomares cross to put the locals in front shortly before the break, and Gus Ledes beating Dorronsoro with a long shot after the restart to save a point for the Catalans. As always the second division is incredibly close, and at the end of this weekend only three points separated the top twelve sides! Four of those are on ten points, last week’s leaders Cádiz dropping to third on goal difference after a 1-0 defeat at Oviedo on Sunday. Both teams were missing several key players, but Toché got the only goal after Saúl Berjón set him up early on in the second half to take the Asturians up to sixth. Cultural Leonesa are the early surprise this season, and the new boys are up with the leaders after a 3-2 victory over Huesca in the Sunday mid-day kick-off. Yeray got on the end of Emi Buendía’s wide free kick to put the locals in front, and although Cucho Hernández levelled it with a header from a Vadillo corner, Yeray restored the lead from the penalty spot after Akapo fouled Iza in the area just before the break. Gonzalo Melero connected with Cucho’s pass to equalise again after the restart, but Ahmed Yasser headed the winner from Buendía’s corner with ten minutes to go.

Alcorcón came in to their game against Barcelona B later in the afternoon knowing that a win would take them to the top of the table, but in the end they had to settle for a 1-1 draw which left them in fifth spot. Alvaro Giménez appeared to have given the Madrid based side the victory when he headed in a Pereira centre with a quarter of an hour to go, but Carles Aleñá latched on to a Ruíz de Galarreta pass to fire a low shot past Casto with two minutes left on the clock. Tenerife drop down to tenth after they lost 2-0 at Córdoba, Sergi Guardiola making up for an earlier penalty miss with the opening goal some eighteen minutes in to the second half, and Caballero making sure of the three points with the second right at the end. Further down the table Nàstic beat Albacete 3-1 in the battle between the bottom two, a good start for caretaker coach Rodri, who took over after Lluis Carreras was sacked last weekend. The Catalans went two up in the first twenty minutes with a strike by Omar Perdomo and a header by Juan Delgado, and although Zozulia headed one back soon afterwards, Uche put the result beyond doubt with a lob over keeper Tomeu Nadal in the last minute.
