Alcorcón are out of the relegation zone pending the rest of the weekend fixtures after they beat Mallorca 1-0 in the Friday night game. Owona headed the only goal from an Oscar Plano corner at the start of the second half, and local keeper Dmitrovic made saves from Lago Junior, Salomao and Moutinho after that to leave the Balearic Islanders down in next to bottom spot. Levante have opened up a 14 point gap over second placed Girona after a last gasp 2-1 win against bottom club Mirandés on Saturday evening. Chema gave the Valencia based side the lead from Jasón’s assist in the tenth minute, but Roberto saved a Roger penalty after Carlos Moreno fouled Morales in the area some ten minutes in to the second half, and Sangalli levelled the scores after latching on to Guarrotxena’s pass soon afterwards. With the game in injury time though Roger converted a second penalty after Kijera held him back in the area to deprive new coach Pablo Alfaro of what would have been a good result for his side. Girona themselves were beaten 1-3 by Rayo Vallecano later in the evening, a third defeat in a row for the Catalan team. The visitors had only won one game away from home this season, but within twenty minutes they were already two up, Comesaña heading the first from Javi Guerra’s headed pass, and Trashorras the second from a corner. Alcalá headed one back from another corner just before the break, but Guerra bundled in Embarba’s cross on the hour mark to take his team out of the relegation zone pending Sunday’s games.
Girona are still seven points clear of third placed Cádiz though after the Andalusians were held to a 1-1 draw at UCAM Murcia. Jona put the locals ahead after Ibán Salvador flicked on a throw-in late in the first half, but Eddy fired home the equalizer after Fernando could only push out a long shot from Luis Ruíz on the stroke of half time. Getafe meanwhile stay in sixth place after they drew 0-0 at Huesca, the result keeping the Madrid based side a point above their hosts in the table. Vinicius had a strike ruled out for offside and Alvaro Jiménez hit the post at the other end, but the strong wind made play difficult in the end. (01.04.17)
Tenerife moved up to third in the table after a 1-0 victory over Oviedo on Sunday evening. The two teams started the game level on points, but with only a quarter of an hour gone the referee awarded a hotly disputed penalty for a foul by Jon Erice on Aitor Sanz, the midfielder himself firing home the spot kick. After that local keeper Dani Hernández made a string of saves from Susaeta, Torró, Toché and others to ensure the three points for the Canary Islanders. Lugo are up to eighth, four points off the play-off spots, after a 1-0 win against Reus, Yelko Pino connecting with Carlos Pita’s cross to score the only goal with four minutes to go. Valladolid drop a point below the Galicians though after they drew 1-1 at Zaragoza, Juan Villar giving them the lead on the half hour mark after Ratón saved from Mata, but Lanzarote taking advantage of sloppy defending to make it all square before the break.
Only five points though separate twelfth placed Zaragoza from twentieth placed Almería, who moved to within a point of safety after a 0-1 victory at Nàstic in the mid-day kick-off. Kalu Uche headed the winner for the Andalusians after Joaquín Fernández headed the ball across with twenty minutes to go to take his side just below the Catalans in the table. Nàstic have a superior goal difference to Alcorcón, who drop into the bottom four after Córdoba beat Elche 1-0 later in the evening. Borja Valle headed against the upright for the visitors with an hour on the clock, but with ten minutes to go Héctor Rodas got what was to prove the only goal with an overhead kick following a corner.
