A round of midweek games in the second division this week, with four fixtures taking place on Tuesday. Lugo are the new leaders pending the rest of week’s programme, the Galicians beating Valladolid 1-0 to keep up their unbeaten record. Lugo move a point above Zaragoza, who were held to a 0-0 draw at bottom club Nàstic. The Catalans had a chance to win it when Casado gave away a penalty on Uche shortly before the break, but Irureta saved the Nigerian striker’s spot kick. Córdoba are now level with the Maños on eleven points after they won 0-1 at Alcorcón, Alfaro beating Dmitrovic at the second attempt midway through the second half to give the Andalusians the three points. Levante are back at the top of the second division after a 1-0 victory over Sevilla Atlético on Wednesday evening. The Valencia based side had won their first two home games, and Morales, Campaña and Roger all failed to convert chances in the first half. The goal though did not come until a quarter of an hour from the end when Caro’s attempt to punch clear Toño’s cross only gifted the ball to substitute Paco Montañés for him to score. The result takes López Muñiz’s side back above Lugo, Zaragoza and Córdoba, and they remain five points clear of Elche, now fifth after a 0-3 win at Huesca. The goals though didn’t come until the last quarter of an hour of the match, Hervías beating Herrera from the edge of the area to open the scoring. Soon afterwards Noblejas latched on to a loose ball to make it two, and Nino wrapped things up with three minutes to go. UCAM Murcia are just a point behind Elche in sixth place though after they thrashed Almería 4-0. Tito put the university side ahead with an angled shot on the quarter hour mark, and Góngora got the second from the penalty spot after Diamanka fouled Natalio in the area at the start of the second half. Soon afterwards the visitors were left with ten men when Alex Quintanilla picked up a second booking, and Natalio and Juanma Delgado added two more later on. (21.09.16)
Reus are proving to be the revelation side at the early stages of the season, and they are up to third, level on points with second placed Lugo, after a 0-1 victory at Oviedo on Thursday. Rocha hit the bar for the locals before the break, but with the game in the fifth and final minute of injury time Mayor headed in a Guzzo free kick to keep up the Catalan side’s unbeaten record. Mirandés hold on to sixth place after they drew 1-1 at Girona, Borja García firing the hosts in to the lead early on in the second half, but Aurtenetxe running on to a Rúper through ball to level it with six minutes to go. And Mallorca climbed out of the relegation spots after they drew 0-0 at Tenerife later in the evening, Santamaria and his defence holding fast as the Canary Islanders did most of the attacking. The match of the day though was without doubt the South Madrid derby between Rayo Vallecano and Getafe, Sandoval’s side running out 2-0 victors to climb off the bottom of the table and up to twelfth place. Galán headed in a Trashorras corner midway through the first half to give the locals the lead, and Javi Guerra made it two after Ebert set him up on the hour mark. (22.09.16)
