Málaga are virtually safe for another season after a 2-0 victory over Valencia in the Saturday lunchtime game, Michel’s team now thirteen points clear of the bottom three. The visitors had taken ten points from their last four games, and Munir came close to giving them the lead with a shot just wide of the far post midway through the first half. With ten minutes to go to the break however Recio headed the opener from a Javi Ontiveros cross, and just five minutes later Sandro scored the second with a long shot past Diego Alves from Ricca’s headed pass after the striker’s free kick hit Garay in the face, the defender having to be stretchered off semi-concussed as a result. After the interval Alves had to keep out Sandro again, and in the closing minutes Kameni saved from Santi Mina, and Mangala turned a shot against the upright with the keeper beaten.
