Villarreal stay in fifth place, level on points with Barcelona, after they drew 0-0 at Espanyol on Sunday evening. Reyes fired a shot wide early on, and later in the first half Sansone hit the side netting, and Samu Castillejo got free only to come up against Diego López. Sergio Asenjo did well to tip a Hernán Pérez free kick over the bar after the restart, and Jonathan Dos Santos headed another chance just wide of the post at the other end. With the game coming to a close though Caicedo felt he should have had a penalty when Víctor Ruíz brought him down in the area, but the referee waved play on. The visitors keep up their unbeaten record in the league, but Espanyol find themselves down in the lower reaches of the table, level with Valencia in the ante-penultimate spot.
