Athletic Bilbao finished the weekend up in sixth place, although coach Ernesto Valverde was less than happy after his team were held to a 2-2 by Las Palmas in the San Mamés stadium. Aduríz put the Basque side in front from the penalty spot with a quarter of an hour gone after David García blocked Susaeta’s shot with his arm, and Etxeita headed a corner against the upright a few minutes later. Etxeita had to clear from Araujo though before the interval, and some seventeen minutes in to the second half Vicente Gómez latched on to a loose ball in the area to equalize, firing a shot on the turn under Iraizoz. Just four minutes later Willaims won the ball outside of the area and ran on to restore the lead, but with ten minutes to go Tana saved a much needed point for the Canary Islanders with a volley which bounced past the local keeper into the net.
