Real Sociedad and Sporting Gijón drew 0-0 in Saturday’s opening game, a second scoreless draw in a row for both teams. The local fans welcomed new signing Illarramendi back to the fold, but after that they had little to shout about, Carlos Vela heading a good chance wide and Jonathas coming up against Cuéllar before the break, and De la Bella going close in injury time. At the other end Guerrero and Sergio Alvarez tested Rulli either side of half time, and Halilovic came on to show some good touches later on as the Asturians fought back. Another 90 minutes without goals for either side though, and Sporting will be the happier of the two after taking a point last weekend against Real Madrid as well.
