The play-offs for the one remaining promotion spot began today, with four teams meeting over two-leg semi-finals to decide the two finalists. The first game between Valladolid and Las Palmas ended in a 1-1 draw, the Canary Islanders ruing a missed chance after their hosts ended the game with nine men. Heavy rain throughout the day made play difficult, but the visitors took an early lead when Araujo controlled a long centre from David Simón before clipping a shot past Javi Varas. Hernán Pérez levelled the scores though with a shot in off the post midway through the first half, and Oscar felt he should have had a couple of penalties either side of half time. Chica and then Timor were both sent off though for second booking offences in the last quarter of an hour, but other than a long shot past the post by Araujo, Varas was not really put to the test after that. Everything wlll now be decided in the return match next Saturday, although in the case of another 1-1 draw it will be Las Palmas who go through as the higher ranked team.
