Valencia dropped two points behind third placed Atlético after losing 2-1 to city rivals Levante on Sunday evening. An injury to Alcácer meant that Negredo got his first start for his new club, and after setting up Gayà for him to shoot in to the stands, he saw his header from a corner go over the bar. The first real chance for the locals came late in the first half when Barral headed wide, but after the restart Diego Alves had to save from Víctor Casadesús and Barral before Casadesús beat him with a looping header from an Ivanschitz corner. Substitute Dani Parejo equalized after picking up a return pass from Negredo with twenty minutes or so to go, but just a minute later another substitute Morales put the home side back in front with an impressive shot from outside of the area. The Ches tried to save something from the match after that, Mariño keeping out a Negredo headed and De Paul shooting just wide, but Lucas Alcaraz’s team held on for a third home win in a row against their rivals, a result which sees them move out of the drop zone once again.
