The match between Rayo Vallecano and Atlético Madrid was postponed to Monday night as Atlético had played both legs of the Spanish Super Cup against city rivals Real Madrid the week before, with the second leg on Friday. Those games seemed to have taken their toll though, the defending champions held to a dour 0-0 draw by their local neighbours. The best chances fell to the visitors in the first half, Cristian Alvarez having to save from Griezmann and Mandzukic, but Rayo also went close after the restart, Quini shooting just wide and Manucho testing Moyà with a diving header. Atlético coach Simeone had to watch it all from the stands though after he was given an eight match ban (four in the league and four in future Super Cups) following his red card on Friday.
