Leganés will be joining Llagostera, Racing Santander and Albacete in the second division after they drew 1-1 at L’Hospitalet on Sunday evening. The Madrid based side were defending a one goal lead from the first leg, and although Queco Piña had to save from Valentín and Ariday early on, Carlos Alvarez extended the lead with an acrobatic overhead kick after a throw-in was headed on in the dying moments of the first half. That away goal meant that the Catalans had to score three after the break, and they got one of those from the penalty spot, Ariday converting the kick after he was brought down by Luis Ruíz inside the area. Piña had to be at his best to keep out Akinsola after that, but the visitors could have scored again had Lucas Viale not cleared off the line from Fran Moreno with the keeper beaten. Leganés go up after a ten year absence, but for the second year in a row L’Hospitalet failed at the last hurdle. (22.06.14)
Llagostera will be playing in the second division next season for the first time in their history after beating Gimnàstic Tarragona 3-1 in the second leg of their play-off final. 2-1 down from the first leg, Eloy Gila gave them the lead on the half hour mark after a cross from the left came back off the crossbar. With the first half coming to a close they were awarded a controversial penalty when a shot hit Pablo Mari on the arm at point blank range, the referee ignoring claims that his hands were against his body with his back turned, and that he was standing outside of the area. Enric Pi fired the spot kick wide, but just a minute later there was more controversy when Xisco Campos was sent off for bringing down Chamorro outside of the area, Jordi López curling the resulting free kick past Reina. Nàstic came back after the break though, Xavi Molina heading against the bar before Marcos converted a second questionable penalty after he was pushed over in the area. That took the game into extra time, and just three minutes in Nahu got on the end of Pi’s cross to head his team’s third. An away goal would still have taken the visitors up instead, but Moragón kept them out in a bad tempered last quarter of an hour which ended with players and fans clashing on the pitch. (21.06.14)
