Villarreal made sure of a place in next season’s Europa League after they picked up the point they needed in a 0-0 draw at fifth placed Sevilla. The locals were celebrating their epic win over the Ches in Thursday’s Europa League semi-final, and with their place in Europe already secured, Unai Emery rested several key players. Despite the result it was a lively game though, with Giovani going close for the visitors early on and then bringing a good save out of Javi Varas, one of the coach’s replacements. M’Bia and Moreno fired shots just wide and Sergio Asenjo kept out Marin and Vitolo, and after the interval Gameiro tried his luck a couple of times. Musacchio missed a sitter later on following a set-piece free kick, but in the end both teams settled for the point. Villarreal will be looking for more though in their remaining fixtures, as if they can get past sixth placed Real Sociedad (who they play on the last day) they would avoid having to enter the E-League at the early qualifying stages.
