Sevilla beat regional rivals Granada 4-0 on Sunday evening to close to within three points of fourth placed Athletic Bilbao, who they visit next weekend in what could be a key match in deciding the fourth Champions League spot. Unai Emery’s side took the lead with a quarter of an hour gone when Mainz turned a Gameiro cross past his own keeper trying to clear. Recio swept a shot just over the bar a few minutes later, but Gameiro brought a good save out of Karnezis, and some five minutes in to the second half the French striker scored his team’s second, helping the ball over the line after a poor Ilori back-pass left his own keeper stranded. With just under an hour gone M’Bia got on the end of Gameiro’s cross to make it three, and ten minutes later Vitolo completed the scoring after a Mainz clearance hit Nyom and bounced kindly for him. El-Arabi did try his luck later on, but having only picked up one point from their last nine away games, Granada end the day just five points above the drop zone.
