Newly promoted Elche got their first point in the top flight for 24 years after drawing 1-1 with Real Sociedad in the first game on Saturday evening. The excited fans in the packed stadium only had to wait a minute for Coro to test Bravo, and from the resulting corner the ex Espanyol forward bundled the ball in to the net after the keeper could only push Albácar's inswinging corner across goal. Botía and Manu del Moral both came close to a second when they headed over either side of half time, but Seferovic fired a shot over the top following a short free kick, and with a quarter of an hour to go Carlos Vela got on the end of Xabi Prieto's cross to turn the ball past Manu Herrera. After that Granero fired a shot just wide and Vela hit the crossbar with a long shot, but with an important Champions League qualifier coming up they eventually decided that a draw was enough.
