Girona are just two games away from promotion to the top flight for the first time in their history after a 3-1 win over Alcorcón in the second leg of their semi-final. As the higher ranked f the two teams, matching the 1-1 result from the first leg would have taken them through to a final meeting with Almería, but they got off to a best possible start when local keeper Isaac cleared a visiting attack, and Manu and Babín allowed the ball through for Acuña to run on and score in to an empty net. The Paraguayan striker limped off a few minutes later after aggravating an old injury, but later on the first half Juanlu ran through to round the keeper and score a second. Isaac and his defence did have some work to do after that, but with ten minutes to go Juanlu put the game beyond the visitors' reach after Sanchón set him up, and a strike by Sergio Mora came too late to prevent the Madrid based side from failing for the second year running at the play-off stage. The two finalists meet in the Montilivi stadium on Wednesday night, with the return leg in Almería on Saturday.
