Almería are in to the promotion play-off final after a 2-1 victory over Las Palmas, although they had to wait for the last minute of extra time before Charles got the winner. After the 1-1 draw in the first leg, the visitors needed to score to have any hope of going through, and Thievy and Vitolo went close in a first half in which they dominated. With an hour on the clock Aleix Vidal and Soriano combined to set up Charles to put the locals ahead, but a late goal from Chrisantus after the defence failed to clear a throw-in took the match in to extra time.
Under the new rules Almería would still have gone through as the higher ranked side without resorting to a penalty shoot-out if the scoreline remained the same, but a goal from Las Palmas would have turned things around. Charles had a chance to wrap things up from the penalty spot after Murillo brought down Jonathan in the area, but the Brazilian striker fired his spot-kick wide of the mark. Soon afterwards the Canary Islanders were down to nine men after Chrisantus and then Javi Castellano were sent off, and with the game coming to an end, Charles got his second of the night on a quick breakaway to keep his team on line for a return to the top flight after a two year absence. .
