Mallorca came within a whisker of saving themselves from relegation after a 4-2 win over Valladolid, but in the end they left it too late, and they go down for the first time in sixteen years. It was almost an impossible feat, starting the day at the bottom of the table needing the three sides above them to fail, but they gave it their best shot, Alfaro running on to a Víctor Casadesús through ball to put them ahead with just over a quarter of an hour gone. Alberto Bueno made it all square after Aouate could only push out a shot by Omar Ramos, but before half time Martí restored the lead with an impressive shot from outside of the area, and a few minutes after the restart Giovani (who Mallorca had kept back from international duty in defiance of Mexico) ran through to make it three. Javi Márquez wrapped things up with a fourth before Omar got another for the visitors, but when the players heard that Celta had won by a single goal, they knew that their efforts were all in vain.
